Second Ford Recall Of F-150 In Last 6 Weeks
Almost 144,000 F-150 trucks made between 2004 and 2005 are subject of a recall by the Ford Company. The past month or so has brought two different recalls of Ford F-150 pickups. The defect is in the wiring to the driver side airbag, which can deploy after starting the car.
F-150 recalled because of airbag mishap
In the driver’s seat of 144,000 F-150 pickups which were made between November 2004 and June 2005, there’s an issue with the driver side airbag. CNN reports that this brought on Ford Motors to recall these pickups. The issue relates to a potentially faulty wire. In the steering wheel, the wire for the air bag can have the insulation rub off. Then, a few seconds after ignition, the airbag can short. This can cause deployment of the airbag. Unintentional airbag deployment brought on 269 incidents that Ford knows of. Even though 144,000 pickups were recalled, Ford is being asked to do more by federal regulators.
Recall of 1.3 million trucks
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is asking Ford to recall 1.3 million F-150s manufactured between 2004 and 2005. This is something Ford does not like this idea of doing. This is because the Norfolk, Va., plant was where much of the faulty airbag pickup trucks were manufactured. The NHTSA is thinking about forcing Ford into recalling 1.3 million more F-150s because not all of the faulty autos came from Norfolk.
Ford recalls
Ford recalled 365,000 F-150s in early February because of a problem with the inside door handles, in accordance with USA Today. The pickups were recalled due to this defect by Ford immediately. This is because, during a crash, the door can fly open with the door handle defect. Model years 2009 and 2010 were the only ones affected by this.
